Upgrading the inbox MegaRAID driver will fail, and access to any connected devices will be lost

Consider the following scenario.  In Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you upgrade the inbox MegaRAID driver, which supports legacy line-based interrupts, to a third-party MegaRAID driver that supports MSI-X interrupts.

This installation of the third-party driver will fail, and the MegaRAID card will be put into a D3 device power state.  You will lose access to any devices attached to the MegaRAID controller.

The Storport driver does not have a mechanism to allow it to switch from legacy line-based hardware interrupts to MSI-X interrupts.

You must first update to the latest third-party legacy line-based driver, then update to the latest third-party MSI-X version of the driver.
