Article ID: 958599 - Last Review: January 20, 2009 - Revision: 2.0 FIX: The output from the DBCC MEMORYSTATUS command indicates that the Schema Manager cache uses more buffer space than expected in SQL Server 2008
Bug #: 50003617 (SQL Hotfix) Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release. SYMPTOMSWhen you use the DBCC MEMORYSTATUS command in Microsoft SQL Server 2008, the output in the "Global memory objects" section indicates that the Schema Manager cache uses more buffer space than expected. Note The "SE SchemaManager" entry in the "Global memory objects" section indicates the cache memory that Schema Manager uses. CAUSEThis problem occurs because SQL Server 2008 introduces a new schema manager cache to cache column meta data. In SQL Server 2008, an optimization is not used. This results in a larger schema manager cache. RESOLUTIONThe fix for this issue was first released in Cumulative Update 2.
