Issues that this hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • On computer that has Microsoft Office Visio 2003 Service Pack 2 or Microsoft Office Visio 2003 Service Pack 3 installed, you run a Microsoft Visual Basic script that uses the Documents.Openex method to programmatically open a Visio drawing in ReadOnly mode. When the drawing is located on an Internet Information Services (IIS) site that is configured to deny anonymous access and use basic authentication, the drawing is not opened. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

  • You install the security update that is described in security bulletin MS08-019 on computer that has Microsoft Office Visio 2003 Service Pack 2 installed. When you try to open a new blank Database Modeling Diagram, the Database Modeling engine does not initialize. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
    Microsoft Visio

    ERROR - Failed to initialize the Modeling Engine
    To open a new blank Database Modeling Diagram, on the File menu, click New, click Database, and then click Database Model Diagram.

    Note If you remove security update MS08-019, the new blank Database Modeling Diagram opens as expected.
