A December 2008 daylight saving time (DST) update is available for Microsoft Windows Mobile-based devices. The update that this article describes changes the time zone data to accommodate daylight saving time (DST) changes in several countries, as outlined in this article.

Important Make sure that you uninstall DST update 950885, the March 2008 cumulative DST update, before you install this update. Your start and end time of your appointments will be adjusted.

Updates for December 2008 DST update

The following changes have been made since the previous Windows Mobile cumulative time zone update was released. This update is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 950885.

Argentina Standard Time
The DST start dates and end dates for the Buenos Aires time zone are adjusted to reflect the changes that were made after the prior cumulative time zone update was created (in August 2008).
Egypt Standard Time
The DST end dates for the Cairo time zone are adjusted to reflect the changes that were made after the prior cumulative time zone update was created (in August 2008).
Iran Standard Time
The DST start dates and end dates for the Tehran time zone are added to reflect the changes that were made after the prior cumulative time zone update was created (in August 2008).
Israel Standard Time
The DST start dates and end dates for the Jerusalem time zone are adjusted to reflect the changes that were made after the prior cumulative time zone update was created (in December 2007).

Note Updates for the Jerusalem time zone are not included in the Windows Vista package for this update. The Jerusalem time zone updates have been available in Windows Vista since Windows Vista was originally released.
Mauritius Standard Time
The DST start dates and end dates for the Port Louis time zone are added to reflect the changes that were made after the prior cumulative time zone update was created (in August 2008).
Morocco Standard Time
The DST end dates for the Morocco time zone are adjusted to reflect the changes that were made after the prior cumulative time zone update was created (in August 2008).
Pacific SA Standard Time
The DST end dates for the year 2009 for the Santiago time zone are adjusted to reflect the changes that were made after the prior cumulative time zone update was created (in August 2008).

Note Updates for the Pacific SA Standard Time are not included in the Windows Vista package for this update. The Santiago time zone update was available for Windows Vista in the prior time zone update (in August 2008).
Pakistan Standard Time
The DST end dates for the "Islamabad, Karachi" time zone are adjusted to reflect the changes that were made after the prior cumulative time zone update was created (in August 2008).

The DST start dates and end dates for the Brasilia time zone and the Manaus time zone are adjusted to reflect the changes that were made after the prior cumulative time zone update was created (in August 2008).

How to install the software update

First, uninstall the March 2008 DST update (update 950885). Then, follow these steps if you can connect the device to a computer:

Connect the Windows Mobile-based device to the computer.
Download and then run the WindowsMobile-KB958729.msi file. Follow the instructions that appear.

If you cannot connect the device to a computer, an update file is available. There are many ways to install the update file. For example, you can follow these steps:

Download the WindowsMobile-KB958729.CAB file for the Windows Mobile-based device to a computer.
Attach the update file to an e-mail message, and then send the e-mail message to an account that you can access from the device.
On the device, open the e-mail message, and then save the attached file.
Locate the file, and then run the file to install the update.

Note After you install the update, your device will automatically restart to complete the software update installation.
