SymptomBy default the POP3 Connector in SBS 2008 will only log events when it encounters a failure. These events can be found in the event viewer under the Applications and Services Logs, Windows Small Business Server 2008, Operational log. • Under certain circumstance you might need to enable detailed, verbose, logging to troubleshoot a potential issue. There are two ways of doing this. • You automatically get verbose logging every time you use the “Retrieve Now” button in the POP3 Connector scheduling configuration tab. You can enable verbose logging as the default logging for scheduled retrieval attempts, to do this follow these steps: 1. Open an elevated command prompt by right-clicking Command Prompt and clicking "Run as administrator". Perform the following actions (Please be aware that this will restart the service and terminate any ongoing downloads): C: Cd c:\program files\windows small business server\bin Pop3connector.exe –logVerbose NOTE If you need to turn it off, repeat the same steps but use the following command line: Pop3connector.exe -logNormal The logs can be found in the following location: C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Logs\Pop3connector The verbose logs will contain the entire transaction from the POP3 server as it is retrieving the mail and to the local SMTP server as it is delivering it. The log will also contain any connection errors or other type of exceptions. If the log shows that the e-mail was accepted by the SMTP server, you should at that point continue tracking the e-mail using the native Exchange 2007 tools, in this case, Message Tracking. E-mails that are rejected by the SMTP server will be temporarily saved in: C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Data\Badmail More InformationWindows Small Business Server 2008 Technical Library http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=103721 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=103721) DISCLAIMERMICROSOFT AND/OR ITS SUPPLIERS MAKE NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES ABOUT THE SUITABILITY, RELIABILITY OR ACCURACY OF THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THE DOCUMENTS AND RELATED GRAPHICS PUBLISHED ON THIS WEBSITE (THE “MATERIALS”) FOR ANY PURPOSE.
