Error message when you run a custom report in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0: "An error has occurred"

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0:
  • You import a custom report that contains a dataset.
  • The dataset contains an Integer or a GUID that is used for a parameter in the report.
  • You go offline on a computer that is running the Microsoft Dynamics CRM offline client.
  • You synchronize the report offline.
  • You try to run this report.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message even though you have the Dev Errors option enabled:
An error has occurred.
Additionally, the Application log contains the following warning message:
