Error message description

When you try to use Microsoft Streets & Trips or MapPoint, you may receive an error message that resembles the following message:
Construction information for routes could not be downloaded. Try downloading new construction information again later

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Download and run the ST08 ConstructionPatch.reg file to add the missing value.

Visit the following Microsoft Web site to download and run the ST08 ConstructionPatch.reg file:

Method 2: Manually edit the Windows Registry to add the missing value.

  1. If you are running Windows XP or an earlier version, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

    If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click Regedit in the Programs list.
  2. Locate and then click the following subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Automap\15.0\USA
  3. On the Edit menu, click New, and then String Value.
  4. Replace New Value with ConstructionFileSite.

    Note Be aware that there are no spaces in ConstructionFileSite.
  5. Double-click ConstructionFileSite, and then type the following as the Value data:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=129215
  6. Click OK, and then exit Registry Editor.

Streets & Trips 2009 and MapPoint 2009: Edit the registry

Warning Serious problems might occur if you change the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require you to reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be resolved. Change the registry at your own risk.
  1. If you are running Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

    If you are running Windows Vista, click Start

  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    Streets and Trips
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Automap\16.0\USA


    Mappoint
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Mappoint\16.0\USA
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
  4. Replace "New Value" with ConstructionFileSite.

    Note There are no spaces in ConstructionFileSite.
  5. Double-click ConstructionFileSite, and then enter following text as the Value data:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=91188&clcid=0x409
  6. Click OK, and then exit Registry Editor.
