Update for Windows Home Server with Power Pack 1 released January 27, 2009

This update improves the capability of Windows Home Server to repair abnormalities that are detected in home computer backups.

Windows Home Server regularly checks the home computer backups for abnormalities. If any abnormalities are found, you receive the following message: To resolve the issue, in the Home Server Console, click the Settings tab, click Backup in the left pane, and then click Repair in the lower right.

Before this update is installed, some users may experience symptoms, such as the Windows Home Server Console may stop responding, or network connections are lost when you try to run a repair operation. These issues are more likely to occur if the home computer backups contain a hard disk that has more than 150 GB of used space. This happens because the server may need more memory to process the backups than what is available. This update uses the available memory more efficiently in order to complete the task successfully.

How to obtain this update

If the Automatic Updates feature is enabled on your home server, the update will be downloaded automatically to your Windows Home Server-based system through Windows Update. Or, in the Windows Home Server Console, you can click Update Now on the General page of your home server Settings page.

Prerequisites

To apply this update, you must have Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 installed.

Pre-installation requirement

Before you install this update, make sure that you are not running home computer backup.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this update.
