FIX: Error message when you run an application that calls the IDirectDrawSurface::UpdateOverlay method on a Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device: "Error: update overlay surface failed"

You have an application that calls the IDirectDrawSurface::UpdateOverlay method on a Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device that supports Alpha Blending mechanisms. When you run the application on the device and the Visual Studio 2005 debugger is attached, you may receive the following error message in the Windows CE Debug Output Window:This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

• The DDOVER_ALPHACONSTOVERRIDE flag is set in the method.
• The dwAlphaConst variable is used in the DDOVERLAYFX structure.

This problem occurs because of a parameter check in the DirectDraw layer that incorrectly validates a constant alpha value for overlays.

Restart requirement

After you apply this software update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:

• On the Build menu, click Clean, and then click Build Platform.
• On the Build menu, click Rebuild Platform.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.
