SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. On a Windows Vista-based or Windows Server 2008-based computer, you install the hotfix that is described in KB951376. You use the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard to search for new devices, and you find many Bluetooth devices. Then, you try to put the computer to sleep (S3). In this scenario, you receive a Stop error that resembles the following:

*** STOP: 0x0000007F (0x00000008, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Bluetooth host control interface (HCI) is powered down when the system goes to sleep. Then, the HCI clears any pending HCI commands. However, during the clearing process, the system allocates new commands for remote name requests. Because this process is recursive, the kernel stack eventually overflows. This overflow triggers the Stop error message.

RESOLUTION
