SUMMARY

This article describes the Microsoft Office Word 2007 issues that are fixed in the hotfix package that is dated December 16, 2008.

INTRODUCTION

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that are not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • In a Word 2007 document, you apply the XML elements to the selected text.
    • You protect the document by selecting the Allow only this type of editing in the document: No changes (Read only) check box in the Restrict Formatting and Editing task pane.
    • You save the document in the .docx format.
In this scenario, when you reopen the document in Word 2007, you unexpectedly can make the changes outside the XML tags.
  • There is a network printer that has many TCP/IP ports that are assigned. When you try to use this printer to print a 2007 Office file by using one of the TCP/IP ports, you may receive the following error message:
There is a problem with the selected printer. You might need to reinstall this printer. Try again, or use a different printer.
  • E-mail messages that are in HTML format and that are displayed correctly in Office Outlook 2003 may not be displayed as expected in Outlook 2007.

This issue occurs when the e-mail messages use a CSS property that is not supported by the HTML rendering engine for Outlook 2007.
  • In Word 2007, you open a document that contains a macro from a network share. In this case, when you try to run the macro that uses the Applicaiton.OrganizerRename method, you may receive the following error message:
    File In Use
Note This problem does not occur if the Word document is stored on a local computer.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • In a Word 2007 document, you convert a text box to a frame, and then you insert a shape inside the frame.
    • Then, you insert another shape into the same frame. Or, you format the existing shape. For example, you specify a different fill color for the frame.
In this scenario, the shape that was previously inserted in the frame unexpectedly moves outside the frame.
  • In Outlook 2007, when you right-click the recipient of an e-mail message, you may notice that the smart tag No Additional Actions Found unexpectedly appears in the Additional Action menu.
  • In Word 2007, you create a document programmatically. This document contains a DocVariable field to display the document variables inside the document. After you save the document in the .docx format, the content in the document may be displayed incorrectly.
  • You set the orientation property of a printer to Landscape. In this case, when you use this printer to print an e-mail message in Outlook 2007, the position of the message body is printed incorrectly.
  • When a document is opened as read-only in Word 2007, any embedded documents that are displayed as icons within it cannot be opened. The change is to enable embedded icon document objects to be opened even when the containing Word document is marked as read-only. A similar changed was made in PowerPoint.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • In Word 2007, you select the Update links on save option for a new document, and then you save the blank document in the .docx format to a location.
    • Then, you add a hyperlink to a specified file in this new document, and you save this document in the .docx format to a new location.
In this scenario, when you reopen the document that contains the hyperlink in Word 2007, and you press CTRL+Click to follow the link, you receive the following error message:
    Cannot open the specified file
  • In a Word 2007 document, when you use the ListNum fields and bullets or numbers in the body text of a paragraph, the ListNum fields may be displayed incorrectly, or the fields may disappear.
  • You copy a table from a Word 2007 document, and then you use the Paste Special option to paste the table into a PowerPoint 2007 presentation as a Microsoft Office Word Document object. Then, you edit the table in the PowerPoint presentation. In this case, the size of the table may be changed unexpectedly.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You have three Word 2007 documents that are saved in the same folder. The first document contains a hyperlink to the second document, and the second document contains a hyperlink to the third document.
    • You open the first document, and then you click the hyperlink to open second document in Word 2007.
    • You save the second document to a different folder.
In this scenario, the hyperlink in the second document to the third document points to the folder where the second document is now located instead of the correct path of the third document.

Note This problem occurs only when all the documents are saved in the .doc format.
  • XML attribute values are truncated to 256 characters when you open Word 2007 .docx files in Word 2003, and the Office Compatibility Pack is installed.
  • Images that are sent in meeting requests are not displayed. (An icon shows up instead.)
  • 959630 In a Word 2007 document, when you insert an IncludeText field into an IF statement that only contains a true condition, the IncludeText field is removed after you perform a mail merge
  • 961812 Lotus Notes links are not clickable in Outlook 2007 or in Word 2007
