While attempting to connect your Xbox 360 console to a computer, you receive the error message: "Connection Error" (NXE)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect your Xbox 360 console to a Windows XP Media Center Edition-based computer, you receive the following error message:
Connection Error

An error occurred when attempting to connect to your PC with Windows Media Center. Turn your computer off and back on and try again. If the problem persists, reinstall the software from www.xbox.com/pcsetup.

CAUSE

You receive this error message if your Xbox 360 console cannot connect to your Windows XP Media Center-based computer on the network.

THINGS TO TRY

The steps in this section will help you get your Xbox 360 console connected to your Windows XP Media Center-based computer.
  1. If you have not done this, install the Media Center Extender software on the Windows XP Media Center-based computer. To download the Media Center Extender software, visit the following Web site:
    http://www.xbox.com/pcsetup (http://www.xbox.com/pcsetup)
    After you've installed the software and restarted your computer, try to connect. If you still get an error message, continue with step 2.
  2. Disconnect the console from the computer, and then reconnect the console to the computer:
    1. Go to the Settings hub, and choose System.
    2. Select Computers, and then select the option to disconnect the console from the Windows XP Media Center-based computer.
    3. In the System Settings section, select Storage.
    4. Select Hard Drive or Memory Card.
    5. Select Games.
    6. Select the appropriate gamer profile, and then select Xbox 360 Dashboard.
    7. Delete the entry for Windows Media Center.
    8. Reinstall the Media Center Extender software to reconnect the Xbox 360 console to the Windows XP Media Center-based computer.
