You cannot include the default global address list in a new or existing Offline Address Book in Exchange Server 2007

Consider the following scenario. You are running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 in an organization. In the Exchange Management Console, you try to create a new Offline Address Book (OAB). When you try to create the new OAB, you click to select the Include the default Global Address List check box. In this scenario, when you click Next to go to the next step, you receive the following error message:Additionally, you receive the error message that is mentioned in this section in the following scenario. You open the properties of any existing OAB. On the Address Lists tab, you enable the Include the Default Global Address List option, and then you try to accept the change.

This problem occurs because there is no address list in the Exchange organization that is recognized as the default global address list. Although you have an address list that has the correct name, "Default Global Address List," the address list type may have been changed, and the address list is no longer the default global address list. The value of the msExchRecipientFilterFlags attribute in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) and in Active Directory directory service controls whether the address list can be used as the default global address list.

To resolve this problem, verify and change the value of the msExchRecipientFilterFlags attribute of the default global address list to "3." To change this value, use the Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) Edit snap-in. To do this, follow these steps.

Note ADSI Edit is included with the Windows Server 2003 Support Tools. To install the Windows Server 2003 Support Tools, double-click Suptools.msi in the Support\Tools folder on the Windows Server 2003 CD.

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Windows Support Tools, and then click Command Prompt.
2. At the command prompt, type adsiedit.msc, and then press ENTER.
3. Connect to a domain controller if you are not already connected.
4. In the navigation pane, expand Configuration [ Computer_Name.Domain.Root_Domain ], expand CN=Configuration,DC= Domain,DC=Root_Domain, and then expand CN=Services.
5. Expand CN=Microsoft Exchange, expand CN=Organization_Name, expand CN=Address Lists, and then expand CN=All Global Address Lists.
6. Right-click CN=Default Global Address List, and then click Properties.
7. In the CN=Default Global Address List Properties dialog box, locate and then double-click the msExchRecipientFilterFlags attribute.
8. Type 3 in the Value box, and then click OK two times.
9. Exit ADSI Edit.
10. Wait for the change to be replicated through all domain controllers in the organization.

You can now select the Include the default Global Address List option when you create or change offline address books.
