SYMPTOMS

You connect a Microsoft Windows CE 5.0-based device to an IP version 6 (IPv6) network that uses a stateless Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IPv6 (DHCPv6) server. You send a DHCPv6 information-request message from the device to the stateless DHCPv6 server to obtain the configuration information. However, the stateless DHCPv6 server does not respond with a reply message as expected. Additionally, if the stateless DHCPv6 server is a Dibbler and if the device is running a non-x86 image, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
17095 PID:400002 TID:5360002 Exception 'Data Abort' (4): Thread-Id=05360002(pth=85187504), Proc-Id=00400002(pprc=82184308) 'NK.EXE', VM-active=05d30002(pprc=851acb74) 'explorer.exe' 17095 PID:400002 TID:5360002 PC=c0928290(dhcpv6l.dll+0x00008290) RA=c0928314(dhcpv6l.dll+0x00008314) SP=d1c6fdf4, BVA=00000000
This problem occurs when the stateless DHCPv6 server is configured to provide the DNS Recursive Name Server option (23) and the Domain Search List option (24).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the DHCPv6 information-request message does not contain the following information:
  • The elapsed time
  • The client identifier
  • The vendor class identifier
