SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Service Pack 2 (SP2), you click the arrow to scroll down an application pop-up menu. When you reach the last command on the menu, the arrow becomes dimmed. If you then move the mouse between the border of the last command and the dimmed arrow, Windows Server 2003 may crash. Additionally, you receive the following Stop error:
Stop 0x0000008E (<parameter1>, <parameter2>, <parameter3>, <parameter4>)
If you use the debugging tools for Windows to analyze the crash dump file, you may see that it crashes at the win32k!MNItemHitTest point.

An example of a pop-up menu that has an arrow
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Right-click anywhere on the page, and then point to Encoding.
  3. Point to More, and a pop-up menu that has a down arrow appears.

Note The down arrow appears only if some commands on the menu cannot be displayed on the screen.
