Error message when you install SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 on Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008: "Visual Studio 2005 has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows"

If you select Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) to be installed when you install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (SP3) on Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you may receive the following Program Compatibility Assistant message:Note You may also receive this error message when you try to upgrade to SQL Server 2005 SP3, and BIDS is already installed.

This issue occurs because the Visual Studio component that is included in SQL Server 2005 SP3 has a known compatibility issue with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

• After you install SQL Server 2005 SP3, install Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 SP1. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

• If you are running Windows Vista, install the Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 update for Windows Vista. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=82675 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=82675)
• Run Windows Update to install all important updates and critical updates for Visual Studio 2005.
