On This PageSYMPTOMSConsider the follow scenario:
CAUSEThis problem occurs because, when the system shutdown behavior is stopped by because of application that does not close, system power requests are canceled. This occurs because the application returns a BROADCAST_QUERY_DENY message in response to the WM_POWERBROADCAST message and the PBT_APMQUERYSUSPEND message. Therefore, the system power state data contains information from the canceled request. In this case, if the system tries to turn off the monitor by using the system timer, the system cannot turn off the monitor.
RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
