The IPv6 network interface status may not be displayed correctly in the Routing and Remote Access snap-in, depending on the properties of the network connection in Windows Server 2008

INTRODUCTION

Consider the following scenario:
  • The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) check box is cleared in the properties of a network connection.
  • The Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) check box is selected in the properties of the same network connection.
  • You start the Routing and Remote Access snap-in.
In this scenario, when you click General under the IPv4 connection in the Routing and Remote Access snap-in, the status is displayed as Not available. However, when you click General under the IPv6 connection, the status is displayed incorrectly as Not available. This occurs even though the IPv6 network connection is actually available.

The scenario that is described in the "Introduction" section is the only scenario in which the network interface status is displayed incorrectly. In the following scenarios, the network interface status is displayed correctly:
  • The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) check box is cleared in the properties of the network connection, and the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) check box is cleared.
  • The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) check box is selected in the properties of the network connection, and the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) check box is cleared.
  • The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) check box is selected in the properties of the network connection, and the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) check box is selected.
