PerformancePoint Server 2007 Service Pack 2 does not install on a Planning server that has Post-Service Pack 1 hotfixes installed or the PerformancePoint Server 2007 Service Pack 2 Beta installed

List of issues that are fixed

This hotfix fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

• When you try to upgrade a Planning server to Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2), the upgrade process may complete successfully. However, the upgrade of the Application Databases may fail. To verify that the databases were not upgraded, view the application upgrade log, PPSUpgrade.log. If the Application Databases upgrade fails, you cannot take the Application Databases online.
  
  This issue occurs when you applied a PerformancePoint Server 2007 hotfix that has a version number of 3.0.3999.1 or a later version number, or you installed the PerfomancePoint Server 2007 SP2 beta version on the Planning server.
  
  To verify the version number of your planning server, review the last row in any of the Application Database’s DBSchemaVersion tables. In the last row in the DBSchemaVersion table, if the most current version is 3.0.3999.1 or a later version, follow the instructions in the "Download the hotfix package" section to resolve this issue before you install PerformancePoint Server 2007 SP2.

When the user runs the AppDBpreSP2Update command script, code is executed to check the DBSchemaVersion of the Application Database for the most recent record in the table. The code determines if the version number in that record is greater than 3.0.3999.0. If the version number is greater, a new record is inserted into the DBSchemaVersion table that has a version number of 3.0.3999.0. For example, if a user inserts the record manually, the record looks similar to the following: When this record is inserted into the table, the installation of PerformancePoint Server 2007 SP2 will continue without errors.

Download the hotfix package

Important To resolve this issue, you must download and run the following command script on each Application Database before you install PerformancePoint Server 2007 SP2. This script inserts a new row in each Application Database’s DBSchemaVersion table. This script contains the version number, 3.0.3999.0. This version number enables PerformancePoint Server 2007 SP2 to correctly install on the Planning server. This script does not make any changes to any Application Databases that do not have to have this modification to the DBSchemaVersion table.

Instructions to run the AppDBpreSP2Update command script

The AppDBpreSP2Update command script requires the following two parameters:

• SqlServerName: This parameter is the name of the SQL Server that hosts the Application Database.
• ApplicationDBName: This parameter is the Planning Application Database name that resides on the SQL Server.

At a command prompt, type the following command for each Application Database on the Planning server, and then press ENTER: After the command has been executed successfully, the following message is displayed:
