All USB devices on the same host controller are powered on and never return to selective suspend mode when one of the USB devices is woken up on a Windows Vista-based or Windows Server 2008-based computer

On a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, multiple USB devices are connected to the same USB host controller. When the USB devices on the USB host controller are in selective suspend mode, one of the USB devices is woken up. In this scenario, all USB devices on the host controller are powered on, not only the USB device that is intended to be woken up. Additionally, the USB devices that are not being used never return to selective suspend mode. Therefore, more power is consumed than necessary.
Important Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only one of these products may be listed on the “Hotfix Request” page. To request the hotfix package that applies to both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, just select the product that is listed on the page.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

To apply this hotfix on a Windows Vista-based computer, you must have Windows Vista Service Pack 1 installed on the computer.

Service Pack 1 is integrated into Windows Server 2008.
GDR service branches contain only fixes that are broadly released to address widespread, critical issues. LDR service branches contain hotfixes in addition to broadly released fixes.
The .manifest files and the .mum files that are installed in each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 and for Windows Vista" section. These files and their associated .cat (security catalog) files are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component. The .cat files are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
