Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 may stop monitoring SNMP devices

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 to monitor Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) devices, monitoring of such devices may intermittently stop. This affects SNMP performance collection rules or SNMP event monitors.

After you restart the Health Service on the proxy agent, monitoring of SNMP devices will continue as usual for a while. The issue may reoccur some time later.

One or more of the following Operations Manager 2007 events may be logged on the proxy agent when this issue occurs:

Level: Error
Description: Error sending an SNMP GET messages to IP Address NN.NN.NN.NN , Community String:=communitystringname, Status 0x63

Event ID: 4503
Level: Error
Description: A module reported an error 0x80004005 from callback which was running as part of a rule “rulename” running for instance “NN.NN.NN.NN: with id:”GUID” in management group “managementgroupname”

Source: HealthService
Event ID: 1101
Level: Warning
Description: Summary: N rule(s)/monitor(s) failed and got unloaded, N of them reached the failure limit that prevents automatic reload. Management group “managementgroupname”. This is a summary only event, please see other events with unloaded rule(s)/monitor(s).

To resolve this problem, install the following hotfix package:

The monitoring of SNMP devices may stop intermittently in System Center Operations Manager or in System Center Essentials

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.This problem was first corrected in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2.
