Error message when you customize a view in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0: "Select the column you want to remove"

SYMPTOMS

You try to customize a view in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. However, if you click Remove in the Common Task pane, you receive the following error message:
Select the column you want to remove.
If you click Move the selected column left or Move the selected column right, you receive the following error message:
Select a column to move.
If you click a column, the column is not selected.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the "about:blank" value is not added to the trusted sites or the local intranet sites in Windows Internet Explorer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, add the "about:blank" value to the trusted sites or the local intranet sites in Windows Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type inetcpl.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. In the Internet Properties window, click the Security tab.
  3. Use the appropriate method:
    • If you want to add the value to the trusted sites, follow these steps:
      1. Click Trusted sites, and then click Sites.
      2. In the Trusted sites dialog box, type about:blank in the Add this website to the zone box, and then click Add.
    • If you want to add the value to the local intranet sites, follow these steps:
      1. Click Local intranet, and then click Sites.
      2. In the Local intranet dialog box, click Advanced.
      3. In the Add this website to the zone box, type about:blank, and then click Add.
