Article ID: 961724 - Last Review: December 8, 2010 - Revision: 2.0 FIX: The BizTalk 2006 or BizTalk Server 2009 FTP adapter does not retrieve a file from an FTP server when you issue the RETR command
On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you issue the RETR command to retrieve a file from an FTP server in Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 or BizTalk Server 2009, you do not receive the file. Additionally, you receive the following error message: 550
<FileName>: No such file or
directory Additionally, if you issue the LIST command through the FTP adapter to the FTP server, the last character of the file name is truncated. If you use a network monitor tool to watch the network traffic between the BizTalk Server computer and the FTP server, you see that the file name that the FTP server returns is correct. CAUSEThis problem occurs because the
FTP server returns a response from the LIST command that is not formatted as BizTalk Server
expects. BizTalk Server expects the file names that the FTP server returns to be separated or terminated by using carriage return and line feed (CRLF 0x 0D, 0x0A) characters. However, some FTP servers return a response that contains only a line feed (LF 0x0A) character to separate or terminate file names. Therefore, the file name is truncated. When you use the FTP adapter to retrieve files from that FTP server, the FTP adapter sends the LIST command to the FTP server. Because the FTP server returns a response that contains only a line feed character, the FTP adapter retrieves an incorrect file name. Therefore, the FTP adapter uses the incorrect file name when the FTP adapter sends the RETR command to the FTP server. Therefore, BizTalk Server cannot find the file. RESOLUTIONCumulative updated informationFor BizTalk Server 2009, the hotfix that resolves this issue is included in Cumulative Update 1 for BizTalk Server 2009.
