Action

Consider the following scenario.  You have Windows Vista SP1 with the Media Center TV Pack installed.  You have multiple monitors running in Clone Mode (displaying the same image).  You try to play a DVD in Windows Media Center.  The DVD contains non-protected content.

Result

The screen goes black a few seconds after DVD playback starts.

Cause

Microsoft is aware of and currently investigating this issue.

Resolution

To resolve this you must disable Clone Mode from Display Settings:
  1. Right click on your desktop and choose Personalize.
  2. In the resulting Personalization window, click on Display Settings.
  3. In the Display Settings dialog, click on your secondary monitor, and select the check box labeled, "Extend the desktop onto this monitor."
  4. Click OK to exit the Display Settings dialog and have the changes take effect.

More Information

You may also notice protected (versus non-protected) content cannot be played while in Clone Mode.  This behavior is by design.
