Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 generates activities for inactive members in a marketing list when you create campaign activities, quick campaign activities, or mail merge activities from the marketing list

When you create campaign activities, quick campaign activities, or mail merge activities from a marketing list that contains inactive members, Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 generates activities for both active members and inactive members in this marketing list.

This problem is fixed in the latest cumulative update rollup for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.

After you install this hotfix, delete the temporary files in Windows Internet Explorer in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 client for Outlook. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
3. Use one of the following methods, depending on the version of Internet Explorer that you are using:
   • In Windows Internet Explorer 7, click Delete in the Browsing history area, and then click Delete files in the Temporary Internet Files area. Then, click Yes.
   • In Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, click Delete Files in the Temporary Internet files area, and then click OK.

To disable the hotfix, follow these steps:

1. On the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server, add the DisableInactiveRecordFilterForMailMerge DWORD registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
   2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM
   3. Right-click MSCRM, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
   4. Name this DWORD value "DisableInactiveRecordFilterForMailMerge."
   5. Right-click DisableInactiveRecordFilterForMailMerge, and then click Modify.
   6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
   7. On the File menu, click Exit.
2. On the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 client for Outlook, add the DisableInactiveRecordFilterForMailMerge DWORD registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
   2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRMClient
   3. Right-click MSCRMClient, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
   4. Name this DWORD value "DisableInactiveRecordFilterForMailMerge."
   5. Right-click DisableInactiveRecordFilterForMailMerge, and then click Modify.
   6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
   7. On the File menu, click Exit.

To enable the hotfix again, delete the DisableInactiveRecordFilterForMailMerge registry entry or set the value of the DisableInactiveRecordFilterForMailMerge registry entry to 0.
