SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise edition, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard edition, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Developer edition, or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Evaluation edition.
  • You install Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS).
  • You do not have SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) installed.
In this scenario, when you try to edit an SSIS package in BIDS, you receive the following error message:
To design Integration Services packages in Business Intelligence Development Studio, Integration Services has to be installed by one of these editions of SQL Server 2008: Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. To install Integration Services, run SQL Server Setup and select Integration Services.
When you try to debug an SSIS package in BIDS, you receive the following error message:
A problem has occurred when launching selected package.
---------------------------
To execute Integration Services packages in Business Intelligence Development Studio, Integration Services has to be installed by one of these editions of SQL Server 2008: Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. To install Integration Services, run SQL Server Setup and select Integration Services.
Note This behavior is expected in SQL Server 2008 Workgroup edition, in SQL Server 2008 Web edition, and in SQL Server 2008 Express edition.

Note This problem does not occur in SQL Server 2005.
