SYMPTOMSWhen you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) by using Windows Update or by using the automatic updating feature, you may receive the following error:
0x8024200D
CAUSEThis issue may occur if you use Dynamic Update to install the May version of the Windows Vista application compatibility update, and then you try to install Windows Vista SP1. The May version of the Windows Vista application compatibility update does not correctly update certain files on the computer. Windows Vista SP1 uses these same files. Because these files are not updated correctly, setup fails.
Note Dynamic Update is a feature in Windows Vista Setup that works with Windows Update to download important fixes and drivers that are necessary for the Setup process. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, install the latest Windows Vista application compatibility update and then try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 again.
