MORE INFORMATION

To set the download mode for IMAP accounts in Outlook 2007, install this hotfix and set a value for the
ForceDownloadMode
registry entry under either of the following registry subkeys:

Collapse this tableExpand this table
Item Value
Registry subkey HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\IMAP
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\IMAP
Value name ForceDownloadMode
Value type REG_DWORD
Value data 0 or missing - Default Outlook behavior
1 - Force IMAP accounts to download full items
2 - Force IMAP accounts to download headers only

To configure the setting to sync the mailbox when you exit Outlook 2007, install this hotfix and then set the DWORD value for the
ForceSyncOnExit
registry entry under either of the following registry subkeys:

Item Value
Registry subkey HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Preferences
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Preferences
Value name ForceSyncOnExit
Value type REG_DWORD
Value data 0 or missing - Default Outlook behavior
1 - Force a Send/Receive when Outlook exits for the default Send/Receive group
Notes
  • The registry entries can be set in either the regular section or the policy section of the registry. When the registry entry is set for the sync options, the sync options are locked in the user interface (UI) for the Send/Receive settings, and users cannot change the UI options.
  • After you install the hotfix and set the value for the
    ForceDownloadMode
registry entry to 1, inconsistent performance occurs when IMAP accounts click the Download headers in this folder command in Outlook 2007. For example, when an IMAP account clicks a command, full items instead of headers are downloaded to the active IMAP folder.
  • The
    ForceDownloadMode
    registry entry and the
    ForceSyncOnExit
registry entry are only enforced on the accounts that are included in existing Send/Receive groups. If an IMAP account is not included in any Send/Receive group, then these registry entries are not enforced on this account.
