If an access violation occurs in the IAudioProcessingObject::Initialize() routine of an IHV provided Audio Processing Object(APO) then on some Intel machines running Vista 64-bit edition or Windows 7 64-bit edition the system will hard hang and the user will have to reboot.
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.
This has only been observed to occur on Intel versions of x64 running 64 bit versions of Vista or Windows 7. AMD versions of x64 running 64 bit versions of Windows have not had this issue.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
