In Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1), one of the following problems occurs.
Symptom 1When you compile a project that contains the /arch:SSE(2) option and the /fp:except option, you receive the following error message:
Command line error D8016:'/arch:SSE2' and '/fp:except' command-line options are incompatible.
Symptom 2When you run a Visual C++ application that contains an uninitialized floating-point, a floating-point exception occurs. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
0xC0000090: Floating-point invalid operation
Symptom 3When you compile an unmanaged Visual C++ application by using the /O2 compiler option or the /Ox compiler option, you receive an exception that resembles the following:
Unhandled exception at 0x00401342 in file_name: 0xC0000090: Floating-point invalid operation.
Hotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio 2008 service pack that contains this hotfix.
