IP settings, IP address, subnet mask, and gatewayCollapse this image ![]() After selecting either Configure Network or Edit Settings, you will be on the Basic Settings tab, which contains your IP and DNS settings. When you select the IP Settings block, you are prompted to choose an Automatic or Manual configuration. If you select Automatic, the Xbox 360 console will try to automatically determine your IP settings from your network or modem/Internet Service Provider (ISP). This option is recommended for most users. Some users may need or prefer to manually configure their IP settings, especially when a static IP address is used. This is only necessary if the ISP has issued a static IP address or the user has configured the router to issue static IPs (and is not using DHCP). To manually configure the settings, select Manual, and then enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway by using the keyboard on the screen. When all the information is complete, select Done. DNS settings, primary and secondary DNS serversAfter selecting either Configure Network or Edit Settings, you will be on the Basic Settings tab, which contains your IP and DNS settings. When you select the DNS Settings block, you are prompted to select Automatic or Manual configuration. PPPoE settingsIf your Internet service provider uses PPPoE authentication, you have to enter the settings in the Xbox Dashboard.Note If your ISP does not use PPPoE authentication, make sure that these settings are blank. To learn whether your ISP uses PPPoE authentication and to determine the PPPoE information, contact your ISP. Alternate MAC address/host nameSome ISPs limit the Internet connection so that you can connect only from one MAC address. When you use a direct Internet connection and you switch the connection from the computer that you are using to your Xbox 360 console, the Xbox console can use the same MAC address as the computer.
