SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • In your environment, you have a terminal server that is running Windows Server 2008.
  • A user creates a terminal session to the terminal server for the first time.
  • A new local profile is created for this user.
In this scenario, the application compatibility scripts do not run, and no suitable environment is created for this user. Therefore, the user has to log off and then log on again to make the application compatibility scripts run.

Note This issue does not occur if the user uses a roaming profile.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Startup folder is not created in the user profile under the following directory when the application compatibility scripts try to start:
\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
The application compatibility scripts assume that the Startup folder exists. If the folder is missing, the application compatibility scripts do not run.
