SYMPTOMS

You access some file shares through a domain-based Distributed File System (DFS). When you crawl the file shares in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, you experience poor performance.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply hotfix packages 961749 and 961750, and then enable the hotfix package. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Apply the hotfix package 961749. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  2. Enable the hotfix package. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0\Search\Global\Gathering Manager
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    4. Type IgnoreLocalGroups, and then press ENTER.
    5. Right-click IgnoreLocalGroups, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    7. Exit Registry Editor.
