Queries to SNMP devices stop responding when Windows Server 2008-based systems or Windows Vista Service Pack 1-based systems receive multiple SNMP WMI queries at the same time

SYMPTOMS

When a Windows Server 2008-based system or a Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based system that has the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider feature enabled receives multiple SNMP WMI queries at the same time, queries to SNMP devices stop responding. The queries do not return data. WMI queries for SNMP devices fail.

CAUSE

The problem occurs because of the SNMP WMI provider. A deadlock situation occurs when the SNMP WMI provider handles multiple WMI queries at the same time.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem is that described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem is described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
