Action

The Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider ("the TFS MSSCCI provider") enables integrated use of Team Foundation Version Control with products that do not support Team Explorer integration. At time of writing, the MSSCCI provider supports the following products:
  • Visual Studio .NET 2003
  • Visual C++ 6 SP6
  • Visual Visual Basic 6 SP6
  • Visual FoxPro 9 SP1
  • Microsoft Access 2003 SP2
  • SQL Server Management Studio
  • Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect 6.1
  • Sybase PowerBuilder 10.5
  • Toad for SQL Server 2.0

Although the TFS MSSCCI provider does not work with the Micro Focus Mainframe Express IDE out of the box, some developers wish to enable integration of the TFS MSSCCI provider with the Micro Focus Mainframe Express IDE. Unfortunately this usually results in "Server Busy" dialogs while attempting to use source control commands from within the Micro Focus Mainframe Express IDE.

Resolution

To enable compatibility between the Micro Focus Mainframe Express IDE and the TFS MSSCCI provider, a registry key must be created and set to the correct value.  To set this registry key follow the steps below:
  1. Ensure that all instances of Mainframe Express, Microsoft Visual Studio, and TFS Team Explorer are closed.
  2. Using the registry editor (regedit.exe), navigate to the following registry key (Note: This operation may require elevated privileges on certain Windows operating systems):

    x86
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider\Settings]

    x64
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider\Settings]
  3. In the left-hand pane of the Registry Editor, right-click the "Settings" key and then select New>Key. Name the key "Mainframe Express" (no quotes).
  4. In the left-hand pane of the Registry Editor, right-click the "Mainframe Express" key you created in step 3 and then select New>Key. Name the key "MFE.EXE" (no quotes).
  5. With the "MFE.EXE" key highlighted in the left-hand pane of the Registry Editor, right-click in the right-hand pane and then select New>DWORD (32-bit) Value. Named the value "issues" (no quotes).
  6. Double-click the new "issues" DWORD and set the Hexadecimal data value to "e6" (no quotes).

After adding this new key to the registry, using Source Control operations in the Mainframe Express IDE will be compatible with the TFS MSSCCI provider.
