You receive the following error message when you activate Flight Simulator X, Streets & Trips 2009, or MapPoint 2009: "An internal error has occurred (error code: 0xC004E01E)"
When you try to activate Microsoft Flight Simulator X, Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009, or Microsoft MapPoint 2009 on a computer that has Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed, you receive the following error message:
An internal error has occurred (error code: 0xC004E01E).
The problem may be due to a temporary network interruption or the server may be busy at this time. If the problem persists, check your network connection and verify that you can browse the Internet with your Web browser.
When this problem occurs, Device Manager may not show any devices, and Network Connections may not show any network connections.
To fix this problem automatically, click the Fix this problem link. Then, click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in the wizard.
Note This wizard may be available in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows. If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a USB drive or to a CD, and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
To fix this problem, you must make the changes to the registry. When you do this, consider the following points:
These steps work only for Flight Simulator X, Streets & Trips 2009, and MapPoint 2009. Do not follow these steps if this problem occurs when you use a different product.
The HKEY_CURRENT_USER subtree in the registry contains the user profile for the user who is currently logged on to the computer. Because these steps include changing registry subkeys in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER subtree, you must change these registry subkeys for each person who uses the computer.
You may have to reinstall Microsoft Office after you complete these steps.
To make the changes to the registry, follow these steps:
Log on to the computer that is experiencing the problem.
Exit all programs.
Start Registry Editor. To do this, click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box and then click OK.
Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
Important Download and save the Update for Windows XP (KB953979) package to your desktop. Do not run the update package immediately after you download it. The update must be installed in safe mode.

How to obtain Microsoft support files from online services
Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
Restart the computer in safe mode. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start.
Click Shut Down. The Shut Down dialog box appears.
In the What do you want the computer to do list, select Restart, and then click OK.
After the computer restarts, but before Windows XP starts, press F8.
Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode option, and then press ENTER.
In safe mode, extract and install the update. To do this, follow these steps:
Double-click the update package that you downloaded in step 1. Save the file to your desktop.
Click Run if you are prompted to run the file.
Select a location to which you want to extract the file, and then click OK.
Note By default, if you saved the download to your desktop in step 1, the extracted file will be saved to your desktop. To select a different location in which to extract the file, click Browse.
Click OK when the file extraction is complete.
Locate and then double-click the extracted file.
Notes
The extracted file is named Fixccs.exe.
When you double-click the extracted file, a Command Prompt window opens, and the required tasks are performed. The Command Prompt window closes automatically after all tasks are completed.
After the installation of the update is complete, restart your computer in standard mode the way that you typically do.
