Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) provides a change in the way that a Windows SharePoint Services site that is in forms-based authentication (FBA) mode responds to an anonymous access request from Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007.
Behavior before you install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP2 packageWhen you use SharePoint Designer 2007 to anonymously access a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Web site that is in the FBA mode, you receive an error message that resembles the following in SharePoint Designer 2007:
Note The behavior is the same when you use Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 with any version of SharePoint Designer 2007. This includes SharePoint Designer 2007 SP2.
Access denied. Before opening files in this location, you must first browse to the web site and select the option to login automatically
Behavior after you install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP2In versions earlier than SharePoint Designer 2007 SP2, you experience the same behavior after you install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP2.
In SharePoint Designer 2007 SP2, when you try to anonymously access a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP2 Web site that is in the FBA mode, you are prompted to log on.
