SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • On a server that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2008, you create a new condition in Policy Management in SQL Server Management Studio.
  • You create a new policy that uses the new condition.
  • In the policy properties, you define a check condition.
  • In the check condition, you click the default Every Database option in the Against targets box.
In this scenario, the system objects may not be checked as expected. For example, the system objects are checked when you use the On change evaluation mode. However, the system objects are not checked when you use the On schedule evaluation mode.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2008. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, add the IsSystem property to the target filter condition. For example, add the "@IsSystemObject = True" target condition or the "@IsSystemObject = False" target condition to the policy.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1.
