SUMMARY

This article describes the following about this hotfix release:
  • The issues that are fixed by the hotfix package
  • The prerequisites for installing the hotfix package
  • Whether you must restart the computer after you install the hotfix package
  • Whether the hotfix package is replaced by any other hotfix package
  • Whether you must make any registry changes
  • The files that are contained in the hotfix package

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure a database mirroring session for a database in an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
  • The instance is a named instance on the mirror server and the instance listens on a dynamic port.
  • An application connects to the mirrored database by using the SQL Server 2005 Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) driver 1.2.
  • The application can successfully connect to the mirrored database at the first time. Then, the mirror server meets one of the following conditions:
    • The SQL Server Browser service stops.
    • UDP port 1434 is blocked between the mirror server and the computer that is running the application.
    • The mirror server is offline or cannot be accessed.
In this scenario, the application cannot connect to the database again after the first time.

CAUSE

When the application establishes the first connection to the instance of SQL Server, SQL Server returns the information to client application that the database is mirrored. The application will then cache the information. When the same application tries to connect to SQL Server for the second time, the application tries to obtain the information from the mirror server first. If the mirror server meets one of the conditions that are listed in the Symptoms section, the application cannot obtain the information from the mirror server. Therefore, the connection fails.
