The Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) shortcut is not hidden for new user accounts after you disable Internet Explorer 8

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • On a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, Windows Internet Explorer 8 is installed.
  • You clear the Enable access to this program check box for Internet Explorer in the Set Program Access and Computer Defaults settings. By doing this, you disable access to Internet Explorer.

    Note The Set Program Access and Computer Defaults icon is located in the Default Programs item in Control Panel.
  • You log off from the computer, and then you log on to the computer by using a different user account.
In this scenario, the Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) shortcut is still listed on the Start menu. Access to Internet Explorer 8 is not removed as expected.

This issue does not occur in following operating systems:
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Vista, x86-based versions

Hotfix information

Prerequisites

To install this hotfix, you must have Internet Explorer 8 and a 64-bit version of Windows Vista installed on the computer.

Restart requirement

You have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace a previously released hotfix.

Registry information

To use one of the hotfixes in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

File information

The global version of this hotfix package uses a Microsoft Windows Installer package to install the hotfix package. The dates and the times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in the following table. When you view the file information, the date is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
