SUMMARY

Windows Small Business Server (Windows SBS) 2008 Update Rollup 3 is now available.

This update includes the following updates for the release version of Windows Small Business Server 2008.

    Update rollups for Windows Small Business Server 2008 that are released through Microsoft Update are not automatically approved
This update also addresses the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

Issue 1
You cannot connect a client computer that is running Windows 7 to a Windows Small Business Server 2008-based domain. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Verify Computer requirements - Unsuccessful

This computer does not meet the requirements necessary to connect to the network.

Before you can continue, you must resolve the following issues:

Operating System Requirements
This computer does not meet the maximum operating system requirements for running client setup.

Issue 2
When you install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on a primary server that is running Windows Small Business Server 2008, you receive the following error message:
Failed to install <ProductName>. No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.

Issue 3
When you try to use the Add a Trusted Certificate Wizard to add a certificate that you previously imported, the certificate may not appear in the list of selections.

Issue 4
You delete a certificate that is being used in the Certificates Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in window. When you run the Add a Trusted Certificate Wizard, the Wizard may stop responding.

Issue 5
You delete a certificate that is being used in the Certificates Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in window. When you run the Internet Address Management Wizard, the Wizard may stop responding.

Issue 6
You cannot directly edit documents from the Web site at http://companyweb after you install Windows Small Business Server 2008 Update Rollup 2 that disables this Client Integration feature.

Issue 7
The Windows Small Business Server (Windows SBS) Console stops responding when you try to open a shared folder by using the "Browse this folder" option.

Restart requirement

You may have to restart the computer after you apply this update. To avoid restarting the computer, close all applications before you install this update including the Windows SBS Console.

Update replacement information

This update replaces the update rollup in 960911 and in 961048.

Manual installation guide

If you decide to install this update manually instead of using Windows SBS Update Services, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), or Automatic Updates, follow these steps:
  1. Open an administrative command prompt by selecting Run as Administrator.
  2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    msiexec /update SBS2008-KB969121-x64-ENU.msp

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Removal information

After you install this update, the authentication mode that is set for the Web site at http://companyweb changes from the NTLM authentication to the Kerberos authentication. The reason this change occurs is because we recommend that you use the Kerberos authentication instead of the NTLM authentication.

If after you install this update, you want to remove this update, you can remove the update by using the Programs and Features item in Control Panel. However, the authentication mode of the Web site at http://companyweb must be manually changed back when you remove this update. To manually change back the authentication mode of the Web site at http://companyweb, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.
  2. On the Application Management tab, click Authentication providers.
  3. In the Web Application list, select the Web application that uses the Web site at http://companyweb.
  4. Click the Default zone.
  5. On the Edit Authentication page, click NTLM for the IIS Authentication Settings, and then click Save.

Known issues in this update

Issue 1

When you remove this update, you may be prompted to insert the Windows Small Business Server 2008 installation DVD. This problem occurs if the Supportedos.xml file is changed by the user before you install this update.

To successfully remove this update, following these steps:
  1. Copy the Setup folder from the Windows Small Business Server 2008 DVD2 to a local hard disk.
  2. In the dialog box that prompts you to insert the DVD, click Browse.
  3. Locate the SBS.msi file in the Setup folder on the local hard disk.
  4. Continue the removal process.
If you want to reinstall this update after the removal, follow these steps:
  1. Replace the Supportedos.xml file in <Location1> with that in <Location2>.
    <Location1> represents the following location:
    %ProgramFiles%\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\webapp\ClientDeployment\PackageFiles

    <Location2> represents the following location:
    %ProgramFiles%\Windows Small Business Server\Data\CDUSB
  2. Reinstall this update.
Issue 2

After you install this update, the following settings for the Web site at http://companyweb are reset to the default values:

If you have customized these settings before you install this update, you may have to manually change back the value of these settings to their customized setting after you install this update.
