A Windows XP Service Pack 3-based computer crashes when you use an SD card

After you insert a Secure Digital (SD) card into a computer that runs Windows XP Service Pack 3, or when you try to access data on the SD card, the computer stops responding.

This problem occurs only on certain hardware.

If multiple devices share a physical interrupt line, the Sdbus.sys driver may incorrectly claim interrupts that do not originate from SD devices. However, the Sdbus.sys driver cannot handle interrupts from other devices. Therefore, all other interrupts remain pending.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To apply this hotfix, you must have Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed on the computer.
