How to fix the Drive Letter Access and Internet Explorer 8 incompatibility problem

SYMPTOMS

After you click a link in Internet Explorer 8, an Internet Explorer windows opens that contains the following message:
This add-on can cause Internet Explorer to stop responding or crash

Internet Explorer 8 is not compatible with your version of the "Drive Letter Access" Internet Explorer add-on.

- Check online for an update.

- Always open Internet Explorer without this add-on.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, disable the "Drive Letter Access" Internet Explorer add-on. You can still use the Drive Letter Access program to burn CDs and DVDs after you disable the "Drive Letter Access" Internet Explorer add-on.

To disable the "Drive Letter Access" Internet Explorer add-on, follow these steps:
  1. Close all Internet Explorer windows.
  2. Open a new Internet Explorer window. You will see an Internet Explorer window that states that the "Drive Letter Access" Internet Explorer add-on can cause Internet Explorer to crash or to stop responding.
  3. Click Always open Internet Explorer without this add-on.
