The Cluster icon is missing in the Computer Management window on Windows Server 2003 x64

Symptom



This issue affects only the x64 Server SKUs, it does not repro on x86.

On a Windows Server 2003 SP2 cluster node:
  • If you right-click My Computer, choose Manage then the Computer Management window opens.
  • You expand Services and Applications and on the x86 Server SKUs you see a “Cluster” icon.
  • On a x64 cluster, you cannot see this icon.


This is OOB (Out of the box) behavior and has been reproduced internally using Hyper-V.

Resolution

Valid and tested workarounds to open the cluster administrator are:

Start – Programs - Administrative Tools – Cluster Administrator.
Start – Run - CMD – cluadmin.exe.
