SYMPTOMS

When you run the Microsoft Commerce Server 2009 SharePoint Commerce Services Configuration Wizard to create a new Windows SharePoint Services Web application, the Web application is not created. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Web Application creation failed. Check the logs for details.
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You configure the IIS Web site and the extended IIS Web site to use port 80.
  • You configure the two sites to use host headers.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
