SYMPTOMS

The MIDI application that uses the inbox universal serial bus (USB) audio driver crashes after a high rate of MIDI events occur on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because high rates of MIDI events cause the driver to crash. This causes the application to fail.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix on a computer that is running Windows Vista, you must have Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed.

No prerequisites are required for computers that are running Windows Server 2008.

Restart requirement

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
