SYMPTOMS

In SQL Server JDBC Driver version 1.2, the certificate that was used to sign classes in the Microsoft SQL Server JDBC driver expired on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 00:00:00 Coordinated Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time). After the expiration date, an applet that uses Java Web Start (JAWS) may be affected by the expired certificate when the applet loads the certificate. The following are some issues that may occur if the certificate is not validated:
  • The applet fails to load the SQL Server JDBC driver (Sqljdbc.jar).
  • The applet logs the fact that the certificate has expired.
  • You receive a warning message that indicates that the certificate has expired.
Note All Microsoft SQL Server .jar files that were released before this hotfix release were signed by using the same certificate. Therefore, they all expired at the same time.
