SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 is not supported on this operating system. Install Data Protection Manager on a computer running Windows Server 2003 SP2 or higher.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the installation process is blocked on domain controllers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install DPM 2007 on a non-domain controller computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

DPM 2007 is designed to run on a dedicated, single-purpose server that is not either a domain controller or an application server. The DPM server must not serve as a management server for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 or for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007. However, you can monitor the DPM 2007 server and the computers that it protects in MOM 2005 or in System Center Operations Manager 2007.
