You cannot sign in to Windows Live Web sites in Internet Explorer 8 after you install Windows Live Toolbar on a Windows XP-based computer

You install Windows Live Toolbar on a Windows XP-based computer that is running Windows Internet Explorer 8. In this situation, you may be unable to sign in to Windows Live Web sites through Internet Explorer 8. For example, you encounter problems when you try to sign in to Windows Live Hotmail or into Windows Live SkyDrive by using your Windows Live ID.

A supported update is now available from Microsoft. This update is available only through Microsoft Update.

Prerequisite

To apply this update, you must have Microsoft Search Enhancement Pack installed.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this update.

File information

The English version of this update package uses a Microsoft Windows Installer package to install the update package. The dates and the times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in the following table. When you view the file information, the date is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Installation steps

To install this update, follow these steps:

1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:

2. Click Custom to find all the updates that are available for your computer.
3. If an earlier version of the Search Enhancement Pack is installed on your computer, the update to Search Enhancement Pack appears in the navigation pane.
4. Click to select the check box next to Update for Search Enhancement Pack.
5. Click Review and install updates.
6. To install all the listed updates, click Install Updates.

Note This update is installed on your computer together with any other updates that you select.
