Public folder hierarchy replication fails with the error code "0x8004010f" in an Exchange Server 2003 environment

In an Exchange Server 2003 environment, the public folder hierarchy replication fails, and the following event is logged in the Application log:

Event Source: MSExchangeIS Public Store
Event Category: Replication Errors
Event ID: 3091
Description: Error 0x8004010f occurred while processing an incoming replication message.
Folder: (<FID>) IPM_SUBTREE\<folder name>

Under certain circumstances, an additional ptagFolderDN property is added to the folders table that overwrites the ptagFolderCDN property during public folder hierarchy replication.

The ptagFolderCDN property is used to input the distinguished name (DN) of the new directory object. When this property is overwritten, public folder replication fails.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the following services are restarted automatically when you apply this hotfix:

• The Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service
• The Microsoft Search service
• The Internet Information Services (IIS) Admin service and all dependent services
